Jenny is a Senior at NYU majoring in History and Politics, with a minor in napping. With a Vietnamese Chinese mother, and a Vietnamese French father, Jenny likes to think of herself as the by-product of Vietnamese Colonialism. Being a news junkie, she is extremely interested in world events and her interest in learning about how the world is shaped were the main reasons why she joined Model UN in high school. It was natural for her to transition into college MUN, where she found herself with a group of amazing, talented individuals. Jenny has previously been involved with EmpireMUNC as a chair and as a Director of Delegate Affairs. She is wrapping up her MUN career at NYU by being Secretary General for EmpireMUNCIII. When she is not found asleep or working, Jenny is a professional cuddler and dog sitter.
Hira Rahman, Director of Operations
Hira is a senior at New York University studying International Relations and Biochemistry, with a minor in Middle Easter Islamic Studies. She currently interns with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and serves as the Director of the UN Initiative for NYU Model United Nations hosting dialogues with distinguished guests such as various ambassadors and foreign ministers. In the few moments she has to spare from the exciting life of MUN, Hira can be found photographing obscure places throughout New York City while simultaneously eating all the street food in sight.
Euan McArdle, Director of Content
Hey guys, welcome to EmpireMUNCIII! My name is Euan McArdle and I am your Head of Content for this years conference, working with all the Directors of content to make your experience in committee spectacular. I have done MUN for two years now, working on conferences and also having the pleasure of travelling on the circuit. I am a sophomore in NYU’s CAS studying political science and economics which I like to believe is a very original of me. As for the other 90% of this time, you can catch me reading, fanning over Doctor Who or Game of Thrones, or thinking about the countless other shows I need to watch. You might also see me vegetating on my bed, attempting to acquire precious sleep. My true loves in life are my indifferent snake and my conservative, crotchety old-man of a dog, and all the awesome people I’ve met from NYU’s Model UN club. Also it’s all about Team Captain America.
Murielle Hsieh, Director of Logistics
Murielle Hsieh is a junior majoring in Economics and double minoring in Politics and joint Math and Computer Science. Having completed a semester in London, she can be found convincing baristas in the West Village that she’s from the UK with her British accent. However, she’s traded in her cheeky cuppa tea for her fifth cup of coffee of the day, which is how she’s maintaining her sanity amidst of all the budgeting, contacting, and waiting for the F train. Hailing all the way from Taiwan, she’s taking up temporary residence on Roosevelt Island, a constant source of debate regarding whether it is a real place or not. If you need her, she will most likely be sitting in the Washington Square Park fountain watching Modern Family and Criminal Minds re-runs.
Luc Lavatai, Director of Marketing
Luc Lavatai is a second-year in the Stern School of Business at NYU, with concentrations in Management and Finance. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Luc has participated in Model UN on every continent except Antarctica –though he is actively looking for the opportunity to do so. Despite what you may assume, Luc is a terrible surfer and prefers to over-compensate with his over-developed FIFA skills. A die-hard House of Cards fan, Luc spends his free time eating ribs, collecting power-ties, and plotting the construction of his own political empire. Fulfilling his lifelong dream of wearing suits and making speeches, Luc is honored to serve as EmpireMUNC III’s Director of Marketing and looks forward to a weekend of political intrigue, private email servers, and visits to Room 101.
Sunny Hong, Director of General Assemblies
Sunny Hong is a second-year in the College of Arts and Sciences with majors in Public Policy and Philosophy. Hailing from Seattle, Washington, Sunny has explored Model UN on both coasts over the past five years. However, she’ll immediately tell you without hesitation: “West Coast, Best Coast”. In her free time, With her extensive love for rain, cats, and Korean BBQ, Sunny is excited to direct the General Assembly team at EmpireMUNC III, and looks forward to a weekend of lively debate, bad puns, and long lasting friendships.
Youngbin Yoon, Director of Joint Crises
Youngbin is a senior Mathematics and Philosophy double major who likes to think he'll be employed after college. When not eating rice, doing math homework, or otherwise affirming stereotypes, Youngbin is an enthusiast of (vintage) Taylor Swift music, baguettes, tea, and Middle Eastern affairs. Outside of school, one can find Youngbin watching the latest romantic comedy, eating Thai/Indian/Lebanese food (often simultaneously), and chatting too comfortably with strangers. He finds the accuracy of this bio genuinely perturbing, but promises he is more put together in person.
Karan Shah, Director of Training
Karan is a Junior in Stern studying Finance and Management pursuing a career in investment banking. His involvement with Model UN spans back to high school, which is what sparked his interest in EmpireMUNC in the first place. In addition to being on the EmpireMUNC directorate, Karan sits on the Secretariat for NYUMUN's collegiate conference and on the organization's general E-Board as Chief of Staff.
Chris Chehade, Director of General Crises
Since being told that he speaks French with a Spanish accent by a stranger on the Paris metro last year, Chris Chehade continues to pretend as if he is fluent in French. He is a rising senior at NYU studying International Relations with minors in French and Destroying the Patriarchy. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Chris always received great pleasure in learning about different cultures, politics, and languages. He decided to join Model UN his freshman year of college on a whim, and is still surprised that the club tolerates his SJW antics. Chris has served as a Crisis Staffer for the Paraguay Committee at NYUMUNC V, Vice-Chair for the Iran Committee at NYUMUNC VI, Chair for the Contemporary France Committee at NYUMUNCVII, a member of NYU’s MUN UN Initiative, and MUN Global Ambassador to NYU Paris. In his free time, Chris enjoys reading extremely lengthy novels that he will never finish, re-watching the original Star Wars trilogy (we don’t talk about the prequels), and cheering on his favorite football club, F.C. Bayern München, in the hopes they will win the Champions League, only to leave him disappointed as they are inevitably and undeservedly eliminated in the semi-finals.
Emily Mollinedo, Director of Delegate Affairs
Emily Mollinedo is a Pre-Law junior studying History and Romance Languages. She describes herself as a metropolitan third culture child having been born in Miami and growing up in Los Angeles, and currently residing in New York, Detroit and Bilbao. In her free time she enjoys dancing with her friends in pajamas, speaking foreign languages, and sitting in Central Park pretending to be Blair Waldorf. If Emily could be born in any era of her choice, it would be the roaring 20s and she'd be as fabulous as Brett in Ernest Hemingway's Fiesta. Emily can't wait to see the finished product of each and every committee and looks forward to meeting the delegates of EmpireMUNC III !
